People Magazine Scans

Sorry for the delay, but I finally had the chance to scan the new People magazine! John and Carolyn are on the cover and in a feature inside, which includes three new pictures of Carolyn!

This issue coincides with the fifteenth anniversary of the couple's passing and the release of Matt Berman's book "JFK Jr., George, and Me". Unlike most magazine articles about the couple, which tended to focus on rumours and negative press, this article highlights the couple's relationship from the viewpoint of close friends and confidantes. It's nice to finally see such a positive spin on CBK and John and it all but confirms what we thought of Carolyn and John - that she was a warm and loving person, and that she was even more beautiful in life than in pictures (hard to think that's even possible!), and that John was, well, kind of a dork!

The three new pictures of Carolyn include her at Martha's Vineyard and at the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port. They're much different compared to the usual pictures we have of Carolyn in New York attending events with John. Some have commented that these aren't the most flattering shots of Carolyn, and although I agree that she doesn't have the perfect blowout, I still think she looks beautiful because it's obvious how happy she was when she was away from the public eye.

On a style note, I always loved her Hyannis uniform of khakis and polos. The fact that she was in colour was a refreshing change from her all-black Manhattan looks. Look out for a CBK summer style post soon!

Pleasantly surprised to see the newest issue of People magazine, a cover story on John and Carolyn. The cover features an interview with some close friends as well as an excerpt from Matt Berman's new book "JFK Jr., George, & Me: A Memoir". If you remember I posted about the book a while back, and it is finally available for purchase.

However, I'm most excited for the 'never-before-seen photos'! Apparently there are two or three new images of Carolyn. I'll be sure to pick up an issue and post the scans online. What a beautiful cover photo of the two as well.

Side note - I can't believe it has been fifteen years since John, Carolyn and Lauren's passing. So sad thinking where all three could have been today. My heart goes out to their family and friends.

Vanity Fair September 1999 : The Private Princess

Sometime in 1997 Carolyn posed for a series of photographs by Bruce Weber, commissioned by

John for their personal collection. After the pair's untimely death in 1999, Vanity Fair magazine published the photos, along with a short story editorial on Carolyn, as a post-humous tribute.

The September 1999 issue coincided with the annual Style Issue, a celebration of the year's finest taste-makers and trendsetters in the world of style. Carolyn was the perfect fit for such an issue, having lead the pared down fashion pack of the late nineties, but it was also a somber issue marking some of the last photos we'd see of Carolyn.

As I mentioned above, these photos were taken in 1997 - when Carolyn's hair was at its blondest and her eyebrows were at their thinnest! Carolyn wore a black button down shirt and what looks like dark brown corduroys (she was often seen in this combination).

I think a lot of Carolyn fans will agree with me when I say that these are the best photos of Carolyn out there. I couldn't think of a better photographer than Bruce Weber to capture Carolyn's honest and playful personality. John and Carolyn's dog Friday even makes an appearance, along with some well-mannered puppies and birds! I especially love that photo of Friday placing his paw on Carolyn's back.

Unfortunately I don't have this magazine in my possession but I did manage to find a large image of the cover as well as some great scanned images (at the bottom of the post). Since I don't have it in my possession I'm not too sure of which order the photos go on but these are all of the ones I've gathered on the web from this shoot! Is there anyone out there with a copy who'd be willing to help organize these photos (or provide some well needed scans!)?

Newsweek : The Carolyn Style

In 1996, fresh off her marriage and honeymoon and just settling into life as the new Mrs. JFK Jr., Carolyn appeared on the cover of the October 21, 1996 issue of Newsweek - the headline read "The Carolyn Style". The article, at times enlightening and at other times condescending, summed up the elements of Carolyn's look from her buttery blond hair to her wardrobe of Calvin Klein and Yohji Yamamoto. Its a really interesting read with some great pictures.

Allure magazine published a great article in August 1999 on Carolyn's modest yet sexy style.

They are great scans and include some great quality pictures of some of CBK's best hits like the ruffled Yohji Yamamoto and her white Versace number. Its a good quick read and I find it really describes Carolyn's style well. If you're interested in buying the magazine for the article Sharon Stone was on the cover!

Welcome to CBK Wardrobe!

The first picture I ever saw of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy was one taken from her photoshoot with Bruce Weber, later published in Vanity Fair magazine. The picture prompted me to go on a rapid internet search of this unknown beauty only to stumble upon a fashion icon. I've had many style inspirations in the past but no one has stayed in my mind like CBK.

There used to be some really great sites on CBK - Ultimate Carolyn and Simply Carolyn - but sadly the owners of those websites shut them down. But I couldn't just let her story disappear in the internet archives, so this blog will be a tribute to both Carolyn and her style. Hopefully this blog will do her some justice.
